Growing Minds. Forming Hearts. Inspiring Lifelong Learners.
At Saint Ambrose Catholic School, our Elementary School program nurtures the whole child—intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and socially—in a faith-filled environment where Christ is at the center of everything we do. Through academics, meaningful relationships, and daily opportunities for prayer and service, students discover their God-given gifts while developing the confidence and character to use them in service to others.
Our research-based curriculum is aligned with Minnesota state and national standards while providing opportunities for active learning, collaboration, flexible grouping, and authentic assessment. Throughout the elementary years, we cultivate a love of learning, encourage curiosity and creativity, promote critical thinking, and foster independence as students grow into compassionate leaders prepared for future academic success and a life of faith.
Language Arts
Saint Ambrose fosters confident, capable readers, writers, speakers, and listeners through a comprehensive literacy program that develops strong skills in reading, writing, speaking, and communication. Students build a solid foundation in phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and composition while learning to think critically, communicate clearly, and develop a lifelong appreciation for literature.
Writing is taught as a process, empowering students to organize, revise, and refine their ideas with confidence. Beginning in the primary grades, students also develop strong handwriting skills, progressing from manuscript to cursive as they grow in fluency and written expression.
Mathematics
Our mathematics curriculum develops confident problem-solvers who understand not only how to solve mathematical problems, but why mathematical concepts work. Students build strong computational fluency while developing reasoning, critical thinking, and real-world application skills. Through hands-on learning, collaborative exploration, and differentiated instruction, students gain the confidence to approach increasingly complex mathematical concepts with curiosity and perseverance.
Science
Science at Saint Ambrose encourages students to explore God's creation with wonder, curiosity, and responsibility. Through hands-on investigation, observation, experimentation, and inquiry-based learning, students explore life, earth, and physical sciences while developing a strong understanding of the scientific method and the world around them. As they discover how science impacts everyday life, students also grow in their appreciation of God's creation and their responsibility to be faithful stewards of it.
Social Studies
Our social studies curriculum prepares students to become thoughtful, informed, and engaged citizens grounded in Christian values. Students explore history, geography, cultures, civics, and economics while developing an understanding of their roles within their families, communities, nation, and global society.
Through meaningful connections between historical events, current issues, Catholic social teaching, and opportunities for service, students learn to think critically, act compassionately, and lead with integrity.
